Best Eurocamp sites for families: top picks in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands

One of the most fun-packed sites in Europe, Duinrell has its own theme park, 21-slide waterpark and adventure playgrounds on site so there's plenty to keep kids of all ages busy. It's set in acres of woodland so it feels peaceful and calm when you're away from the thrills and spills but Eurocamp's holiday homes are within easy reach of the action. The accommodation is basic in style but we found the homes well equipped for families and the decked areas are perfect for outdoor dining.

I'd recommend hiring bikes on site to follow the car-free route to Wassenaarse Slag beach just a couple of miles away. It's also well worth exploring the pretty town of Wassenaar (just half a mile away), with its windmill, boutiques and excellent ice cream shop.

It's also really easy to get to from the UK - just a 40-minute drive from Amsterdam (30 minutes from Schiphol Airport in fact) and a 30-minute drive from the Hook of Holland for ferry crossings to the Netherlands.

Note that while the theme park is free to visit, you'll need to pay extra to access the on-site waterpark.

On the southern shore of beautiful Lake Garda, Bella Italia is one of the most recommended Eurocamp destinations on the Mumsnet Holidays forum. I visited with my two kids and loved the direct access to the lake as well as the wide-ranging activities on site.

It's a great setup for kids with four pools, waterslides and a popular splash park, and there are more water sports on offer on the lake itself.

Daily activities range from kids' clubs and football sessions to crazy golf and archery, and at night there are DJs, live music and amusement parks with bouncy castles and games.

We rated Le Terrazze restaurant for its authentic Italian dishes and lake views, but also appreciated the site's proximity to nearby towns for alternative dining options. There's even a cute yellow train that runs from Bella Italia to Peschiera del Garda - something that our boys loved.

This site is ideal if you want a Eurocamp holiday but don't want to fly as it's a 25-minute drive from Verona Airport.

Given its popularity, this site can get very busy at peak times and we often found it hard to find loungers around the pool - something to bear in mind if you're travelling in July and August. .

Around a 90-minute drive from Paris and set around a serene lake, La Croix du Vieux Pont is a brilliant for families looking for fun and relaxation in northern France.

Travelling with toddlers, I was pleasantly surprised by how much there is to keep kids entertained. The pools are a real highlight - there are four in total, including a sandy swimming lagoon, a fun splash park and an indoor pool with a retractable roof that’s perfect for rainy days.

Accommodation comes in all shapes and sizes, from safari tents to wooden chalets. We opted for a Classic cabin, which worked perfectly for two families, especially with its generous decking area and BBQ for easy evening meals.

The park is packed with activities like boating, fishing and climbing. Indoors, there’s soft play for the younger children, while the kids’ club runs a great programme of activities and entertainment.

The on-site pizzeria quickly became a favourite for relaxed family dinners, and the traditional bakery was our go-to each morning for fresh baguettes.

With so much to do on-site and Disneyland Paris and the French capital within easy reach, this Eurocamp site is a fantastic base for a family holiday with plenty of day-trip potential.

On Spain’s sunny and popular south coast, Playa Montroig is set in subtropical gardens near some of Costa Dorada’s best sandy beaches. With four pools, tennis courts and great restaurants, it’s a good one for older kids, although little ones are well catered for with a kids’ club, a toddler pool and five playgrounds. The port of Cambrils is a short drive away, offering plenty of places to shop, eat and drink. Barcelona is 80 miles north, and well worth a visit if you’re up for the drive.

Mumsnet users love the fact that this site offers lots in the way of activities and entertainment but it's not massively overwhelming in terms of size.

Note that some amenities don't open until June - something to bear in mind if you're thinking about a May half-term escape.

A 25-minute drive from the port of Caen in Normandy and about a 3.5-hour drive from Calais, Eurocamp La Vallée is one of the easiest Eurocamp sites to get to from the UK.

It's set in a scenic valley and is less than a mile from the seaside town of Houlgate and its lovely beach, so it's well located for exploring some of Normandy's best bits.

We travelled with a toddler and grandparents and all found lots to enjoy at this mid-size site. The pools are a real highlight: there's an indoor and an outdoor pool, some brilliant waterslides and a fun splash park, which my four-year-old loved.

The Premium holiday homes come with blackout blinds in the bedrooms as well as bug screens so they're well set up for summer stays. We enjoyed lots of time out on the spacious decking and made full use of the BBQ during our trip.

As well as the pools, there are sports facilities like tennis courts, table tennis, playgrounds and a bouncy castle. And a kids' club runs during the summer months. It’s a great choice for a stress-free summer holiday, and we’d definitely return to explore more of the local area. 

Just 15 minutes from Reus airport, Sanguli on Spain's Costa Dorada is a fun-packed site that offers a bit of everything for kids of all ages. There are four pools including a fun safari-themed zone with a host of animal fountains to cool off under. And there plenty of waterslides to try out and a swim-up bar for when you just can’t bring yourself to leave the water.

After a day in the water you can unwind at one of the site’s many restaurants and bars, and enjoy an evening of family-friendly entertainment.

The location is hard to beat - the site's just 220 metres from the nearest beach and the resort town of Salou is just a 10-minute drive away. Barcelona can be reached in less than 90 minutes.

According to Mumsnet users, this site is perfect for families looking for an affordable sunny escape with access to lots of fun pools and water features.

When it comes to the northern coast of France, you can never predict the weather. Luckily, Domaine des Ormes has a massive covered pool complex in a futuristic dome, so you can enjoy a tropical atmosphere come rain or shine. The site is set in 400 acres of woodland, with wildflower meadows and a large lake completing the idyllic location. Horse riding is a speciality, and lessons are on offer for all ages. Hop on a ferry from Portsmouth, Poole or Plymouth to St Malo, which is 24 miles from the site.

Mumsnet users rate the outdoorsy activities at this lush site and praise its covered pool for wet weather days (although note that it can get very busy at these times).

Just a 30-minute drive from Calais, La Bien Assise is a cute little site that's set in the grounds of a château and surrounded by woodland. It's great for families looking for a laid-back, peaceful escape without having to drive too far into France according to Mumsnetters.

There's a heated indoor pool with a retractable roof, and an outdoor pool for the kids with a waterslide, making this site ideal for families that like swimming. It also has a welcoming French restaurant, a bar, and a small shop for essential supplies.

It's a fairly basic site without the bells and whistles that some of the other parcs feature but the location is hard to beat - it's less than a 30-minute drive from the beautiful Opal coast where plage de Wissant is a particular highlight for a day at the beach.

For a camping holiday that’s a little different, Jungfrau in the Swiss Alps is a great choice. Surrounded by lush Alpine scenery, there are no less than 72 waterfalls in and around the campsite grounds. There’s a playground and table tennis on-site. You’ll need to head to the nearest town to find a swimming pool but campers can get discounted entry. This site is all about exploring the local area, climbing mountains and experiencing a bit of authentic Alpine life according to Mumsnet users.

Combining a picturesque rural location with reliable sunshine and a great pool complex according to Mumsnet users, Le Ranc Davaine in the South of France is an ideal destination for a warm, fun-filled family holiday. There’s a spa, a kids’ club, two playgrounds and lots of activities within easy reach of the campsite. The local area is known for its rock climbing and pot holing. Canoeing on the river Chassezac, which runs through the campsite, comes highly recommended.
