Best robot vacuum 2026, tried and tested in real homes
If you’re constantly cleaning up after your children and pets, the best robot vacuum cleaner could be the solution. We tested the smartest cleaners to find the top options for every budget.
By Natasha Gregson | & Laura Cooke | Last updated Dec 30, 2025
There’s no getting away from it - life with kids and animals is messy. Pet hair, general dirt, and food crumbs mean that you are probably constantly reaching for your best vacuum cleaner (or even a carpet cleaner if things get really mucky).
But you don’t need a back-breaking contraption to keep your house clean. In fact, you don’t even have to get up off the sofa. Unlike traditional cylinder, upright or stick cordless vacuums, robot vacuum cleaners do all the hard work for you. All you need to do is programme them, then sit back and relax. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
But how do these intelligent little gadgets actually work? The best robot vacuums are equipped with sensors, cameras and lasers to navigate your home unaided without banging into obstacles or toppling down stairs. Some even charge (and empty!) themselves, ingeniously knowing when they need to return to their charging dock for a boost. You can even set a schedule for it to whizz around the house when you’re out. They’re also invaluable if vacuuming is physically difficult for you to do.

How we tested the best robot vacuums
First up, we curated a shortlist of products and brands that had won acclaim from consumer reviewers, cleaning experts and, of course, our discerning army of Mumsnet users - the UK's largest online network of parents. From there, we went hands-on, testing every model featured on this page to make sure they were really were the best.
Each robot vacuum was reviewed by our panel of independent product testers, which included members of Mumsnet’s editorial team - Natasha Gregson, Tina Williams, Rachel Erdos and Rebecca Roberts - as well as MNHQ staffer Sarah Murray-Muncila and long-time home tester Alison. All testing took place in real homes - not sterile labs - so we could see exactly how well each machine dealt with everyday mess - from muddy footprints to mealtime crumbs.
We tested them on a mix of surfaces (tiles, carpets, rugs, wood and laminate), scoring them on performance, suction power, navigation, mapping (if applicable), battery life, and overall value for money.

Reviewed by Mumsnet home tester Alison: Read our in-depth eufy Clean X10 Pro Omni Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Mop review
Pet hair, grubby lino, dust bunnies lurking under the sofa… whatever dirty secrets your carpets and floors are hiding, the mighty eufy X10 Pro Omni Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Mop can handle them all.
Easy to set up and with enough charge to set it to action straight out of the box, the powerful eufy X10 impressed our tester Alison, who made good use of the scheduled cleans feature, which left her home spotless.
As well as saving you from vacuuming, the labour-saving Omni also self-empties, self-cleans its mop pads, and even refills itself with water, meaning you won’t need to lift a single finger for up to two months. However, while the mop feature is great for everyday upkeep, it’s not quite tough enough to tackle dried-on stains or deep grime, where a proper scrub still wins out. With that in mind, vacuuming is truly where this robot shines.
Thanks to clever AI technology, it can also suss out where the shoes are, so it can avoid sucking up any shoelaces. Although, despite this impressive feature, the Omni was outsmarted by Alison’s tasseled rug, but it was easy to untangle the robot and it went back to cleaning with no harm done.
On the downside, the Omni is a little on the noisy side when charging and the app takes a bit of getting used to, but once you’ve got the hang of it, vacuuming will never be the same again.

Who says you need to spend a fortune on a decent robot vacuum? Lefant has gained somewhat of a cult following among Mumsnetters who took their first tentative steps into hands-free hoovering with the brand's nifty little gadgets by their side.
At just over £100 on Amazon, the Lefant M210 is great for those who don’t want to splash the cash on a high-end model like the eufy X10 above, but still want an affordable robot vacuum capable of delivering a thorough clean.
During testing, I found the vacuum (or Cinders, as I like to call her!) worked well on the automatic mode - this was ideal for most cleaning jobs, though there's also three other settings (edge cleaning, fixed point and planning) if you have a more specific task to tackle.
It has a 2,200 Pa suction (to compare, the eufy X10 Pro Omni has 8,000 Pa suction), so it's not the most powerful vac out there, but it does a smashing job for the price, plus it works really well on pet hair and has a decent battery life.
However, it doesn't map the room like more expensive models and it also has a tendency to bump into furniture or get caught up in tasselled rugs. If you can oversee these minor issues though, I think it's a fantastic budget robot vacuum.

While the Lefant M210 above may be the cheapest robot vacuum in this guide, when it comes to value for money, the Ultenic T20 comes up trumps. Currently reduced to just £210 in the Black Friday sales (RRP £360), it delivers a lot for the price point: vacuuming, mopping, LiDAR-powered mapping and even a self-emptying dock.
In testing, it performed well on both hard floors and carpets, and the Ultenic app was intuitive to use, with handy tools such as no-go zones and adjustable cleaning modes. The mop isn't the best at tackling stubborn stains (think dried coffee splashes), but it excels at day-to-day maintenance and kept my home looking clean between more thorough deep cleans.
While its navigation isn’t the slickest, the fact you can go up to 10 weeks without emptying the dust bag is a dream - especially if you’re time-poor or simply forgetful (guilty). There are some downsides: occasional bumps into furniture, slightly splashy mopping tank refills and the odd tangle with hair on the roller. Regular maintenance is also needed to keep it at its best, but given the low cost, it’s a small price to pay.

If you’ve ever wished your vacuum cleaner was a bit more… fun-sized, the SwitchBot Mini K10+ might be just what you’re after. After testing it out for a month, I was very impressed by just how much cleaning power is packed into something smaller than a dinner plate (when out of the docking station). It glides smoothly from rugs and carpets to wood and tiles, and its edge-cleaning skills are some of the best I’ve seen in a robot vacuum.
One of its top features is the laser mapping tech, which creates a precise floor plan of your home. This means you can trust it to navigate even the trickiest corners without getting stranded under a chair leg. Clever stuff.
While its compact size is the main headline grabber, the self-emptying bin is what makes it truly hands-off - well, for up to 70 days at least, before it needs its bag changing. It’s also got a bit of personality - chirping “cleaning makes me happy” as it whirs into action (can't relate).
If you don't have space for the likes of the eufy X10 or Samsung JetBot AI+ but don't want to sacrifice on convenience, the Mini K10+ is our best small robot vacuum - and it sure packs a mighty punch despite its dinky size.

Reviewed by Mumsnet Head of Content Tina Williams: Read our in-depth Eufy E20 3-in-1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner review
Well, what can we say... Mumsnet loves a eufy! Going through the forums, it's clear that many of our users have a soft spot for the brand's innovative robot vacuums, and this fairly recent offering caught our eye for its versatile qualities. Unlike any of the other robot vacs we've tested, it also doubles (or, more accurately, triples) up as a cordless stick and handheld vacuum.
While the stick vacuum doesn't match up to high-end models Mumsnet has tried out, such as the Dyson V15, the robot mode is where the E20 really shines. That being said, I was impressed by the cleaning power in all three modes, especially given its great value. It's also compact for easy storage - you’re essentially getting three vacuums in just one unit.
Despite the multi-functional design, setup was surprisingly simple, and it mapped my home in under 10 minutes. The accurate navigation is a plus point too, as is the decent battery life.
I do have a few grumbles, though. Switching between modes can get quite messy, and the smaller bin capacity on the handheld mode means you’ll be emptying it more often than you’d like. But for the current sale price of just £249 (RRP £449), it's a great choice, offering excellent value for money.

If you’re after a robot vacuum cleaner that does more than just mindlessly trundle around, this new model from Eufy is worth a look. With smart object detection, a self-emptying bin, excellent navigation and, most importantly, superior cleaning power, it's one of the fanciest robot vacuums out there.
However, it’s not a small investment - coming in as our second most expensive pick after the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete below. It's also not for every home; I found the the docking station to be on the bulky side, and because the vacuum needs to return there to empty itself and recharge, you’ll need to keep it in a dedicated, accessible spot - think utility room or a discreet corner, rather than tucked away in a cupboard. It's also incredibly noisy during the self-emptying process.
That said, if you can house it, this is a seriously impressive bit of kit. It’s packed with loads of features that are actually helpful, and it even includes a detachable deep cleaner - a world’s first for a robot vacuum, according to Eufy at the time of release.
During testing, I found it made daily cleaning feel effortless - giving me that smug “on top of everything” feeling that money can’t buy.

If you are ready to go all-in on hands-free hoovering, then I wholeheartedly recommend the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Robot Vacuum Cleaner and Mop which cleans like, well, a dream.
Yes, the price is eye-watering at £749 (though, it's a relative steal with a whopping £450 knocked off the RRP!), and I won’t pretend that isn’t a major downside. But after six months of near-daily use, it’s easily one of the most advanced robot vacuums Mumsnet has tested. It maps your home with incredible accuracy, dodges furniture and kids’ toys, and hoovers up fluff, pet hair and general floor grime with ease. It also mops - and, crucially, it empties and cleans itself, so the upkeep is minimal. I only have to step in when the clean water runs low or the dirty tank’s full.
What really sets it apart, though, are the clever touches: it’s the world’s first robot vacuum with retractable legs, meaning it can climb over ledges and transitions up to 6cm high. The 360° scanning means it rarely puts a wheel wrong, and the detangling DuoBrush system is effective on long hair. The power is also incredible - it has 20,000 Pa suction, and performed excellently on both carpets and hard floors.
However, it’s not without faults. The edge cleaning could be better, and it’s quite bulky and heavy with the dock. But if you’ve got the cash to splash and want a truly intelligent cleaner that takes the mental (and physical) load off your plate, this is the most most high-tech robot vacuum I’ve come across.
Are robot vacuums worth it?
A robot vacuum cleaner is absolutely worth it if you lead a busy life and need some help with your household chores. If you have messy kids or pets who shed a lot of hair, you may want to vacuum every day but struggle to find the time. A robot vacuum cleaner can be programmed to fulfill daily cleaning duties, saving you time, hassle and stress.

Can you use a robot vacuum instead of a normal vacuum?
Robot vacuums have come on leaps and bounds in recent years. With the high suction power on newer models, along with increased run times and improved technology allowing an up-to-the-edge clean, you may find that sending a robot vacuum off on its daily patrol is enough to keep your home free of dust and dirt.
However, many Mumsnetters recommend keeping a traditional cordless or upright vacuum for stairs or just to give your carpets and hard floors a more thorough clean now and again.
What to consider when choosing a robot vacuum
There are several things that you should take into consideration when shopping for a robot vacuum cleaner.
Price: Depending on the spec and brand, the price of robot vacuums can vary hugely. It is possible to pick up a decent robot vacuum for as little as £100 (Mumsnetters love a Lefant). However, top names and models can set you back £1,000 or more.
Bin capacity: Check how much dust and dirt the vac can carry before it needs to be emptied.
Running time: Robot vacuum run times vary. The vacs on our list can manage anywhere between two and five hours, depending on the make and model. If you have a large area to clean, a robot at the top of this range will be more likely to get the job done in one go without having to stop for a power-up.
Charging: Some robot vacuum cleaners automatically head back to their charging dock. Others may require you to hook them up to their energy source. It's worth checking the charging time before you buy, too.
What surfaces you are looking to clean: Some models work best on hard floors while others can also tackle rugs and deep pile carpets. If you have hard floors, you may want to consider a robot vacuum and mop hybrid to ensure a thorough clean.
Controls and settings: The latest robot vacs come with apps you can download to your smartphone, allowing you to programme and track it from there. Some can even be operated by voice control.
Mapping technology: More expensive models use a plethora of lasers, cameras and infrared sensors to map out the layout of your flooring and map an optimal route. Cheaper models may operate in a more random fashion, which means that they may clean the same spot more than once.
Do you need a mop?: Some robot vacuums can also do your mopping for you – all you need to do is fit the water tank before they start and programme a dry and wet clean. Alternatively, separate robot mops are also available to buy.
