When asked for the best floor mop recommendations, Mumsnet users consistently praise Vildea mops, with their Turbo models getting a lot of love on our forums. A traditional mop and bucket set with a twist (excuse the pun), the clever foot pedal instantly spins and wrings the microfibre mop head, so it’s ready to use in seconds. 

While the large bucket is bulky to store, it has a generous six-litre capacity, which should be ample enough to glide around your entire home’s hard flooring without the need to refill. 

During testing, I loved the telescopic handle, which protected my back as it extended to a comfortable height (you can adjust between 85 to 123cm to find the right fit). The triangular microfibre mop head was also a hit, navigating easily into tight corners and floor grooves so nothing was left behind. 

The best part? Maintaining this mop couldn’t be easier - simply pop it in the washing machine after use to give it a refresh, ready for your next clean.

Despite its budget-friendly price tag, this flat sponge mop offers impressive cleaning performance, featuring an antibacterial coating that can kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses - making it ideal for homes with children and pets.

While you’ll need to buy your bucket separately, the Addis Superdry is suitable for use on most hard floor surfaces. With a simple pull of the trigger, the clever mechanism automatically folds the sponge in half, squeezing and wringing out water so your floors don’t become too damp.

We love the built-in scraper, which efficiently lifts stubborn stains or sticky marks from your tiles or hard floors. While the foam sponges do need to be replaced regularly, you can purchase them in bulk at a fairly affordable price (£10 for a pack of three).

While it’s more costly than some mops on our list, OXO Good Grips is a brand trusted by Mumsnet users for its durable, high-performance kitchen tools - so it came as no surprise that their cleaning products won praise from consumer reviewers too.

Quick and convenient to use, the reusable mop head tears off easily for cleaning in the washing machine, although you may need to purchase a scrubber refill after extensive use.

If you struggle with storage space in your home or want to avoid the faff of filling a bucket at the sink, a spray mop can be a good practical and hygienic alternative. 

Vileda’s spray mops come highly rated by Mumsnet users - and after trying the 1-2 out, I can see why. Featuring a lightweight, portable design that comfortably glides around furniture, it was super easy to use and set up. With a simple pull of the trigger, a fine mist is sprayed onto the floor from the base. You can then sweep the microfibre mop head over the treated area, lifting away dirt and grime, as well as 99% of bacteria from your floor.

I also loved how the reusable mop head could be conveniently popped in the washing machine; it can go through up to 200 washes before it needs to be replaced.

While larger home owners may find themselves regularly refilling the 250ml reservoir, many reviewers say that they will never go back to a traditional mop and bucket set again. The reservoir can also be used with just water or you can add Vileda’s own Active Cleaner (£10 for 750ml) or your preferred floor cleaner.

Mumsnet users rave about the best steam mops for their ability to revive and refresh busy family homes using just water alone. Suitable for all sealed hard floors, including wood and tiles, they can also be used to breathe new life into rugs and carpets, making their premium price tag well worth the investment. 

This particular model from Shark comes highly rated amongst Mumsnet users and reviewers, with a variety of steam settings to tackle different levels of dirt. We love the rotating brush heads - they spin up to 150 times a minute, making light work of even the most stubborn stains. There’s also three cleaning modes (something you don’t get with a traditional mop!), so whether you just want a light touch-up or a deep clean, it’s got you covered.

As it’s corded, however, you don’t have the levels of freedom that you’d have with a conventional mop, but we think it’s a small price to pay for such a thorough clean.

Designed with wooden floors in mind, the purchase price of this spray mop includes a bottle of Bona Wood Floor Cleaner, which is water-based, Greenguard Gold certified, and pH-neutral. Once it runs out, this can be replaced or refilled with your cleaner of choice. 

During testing, I was impressed with the shine the Bona left behind on my wooden flooring. It was simple to use too; thanks to the flexible head, I could reach every nook and cranny of my living room with ease. 

While some reviewers experienced issues with the spray after prolonged use, I didn't personally have an issue with this during testing, but it's something to bear in mind if longevity is at the top of your wishlist. In fact, I loved the wide-angle spray, which applied liquid generously to the floor without making it damp or slippery.

It dries pretty quickly too, so you don’t have to tiptoe ‘floor-is-lava style’ if you need to re-enter the room soon after.

Admittedly, this little robot mop did struggle to remove tougher stains during testing, but it excelled at quick once overs, so it would be ideal for daily mops to achieve that elusive ‘keeping-on-top-of-things’ feeling - with zero effort! It also used the ideal amount of liquid when mopping, so floors were left clean and sparkly without leaving a deluge of water behind.

For deeper cleans, you will need a mop that's a bit more powerful, but for daily touch-ups it’s fantastic, even taking the top spot on our best robot vacuum cleaner round-up. What’s more, when it’s finished, the Omni trundles its way back to the base station, where it self-empties, self-cleans, and refills itself with water, meaning it’s self-sufficient for up to two months without the need to refill.
