Best buggy boards for toddlers, as recommended by parents
Buggy boards are an effective form of transportation for toddlers, and can save parents of two or more children a lot of hassle and stress. Discover the best buggy boards, as tried and recommended by Mumsnetters.
By Louise Baty | Last updated Aug 19, 2025
Parents are great at multitasking. However, anyone who has ever tried to walk with a toddler while steering a smaller child in a buggy will confirm that it’s a thankless, stressful task. Not only do you need to keep your hands firmly on the buggy handles, you also need to prevent your toddler from trotting off into the road or crouching down for what seems like an eternity to inspect yet another pebble or stick. Sigh.
If your second child comes along when your first is still tiny, it can be tricky to get out and about. Should you invest in a double buggy, carry the baby everywhere in a baby carrier or a baby carrier backpack, or just encourage your oldest child to walk everywhere, which may not always go down well with a cranky two-year-old.
A buggy board could be the answer to all your prayers - and the way to keep everyone in your family happy. These clever contraptions, also known as stroller platforms, rider boards and ride-on boards, upgrade your pram by clipping onto the back of it to give your older child somewhere to sit or stand while your baby is in the main seat. Having a ride on a buggy board can feel like a bit of fun for your older child and also means you don’t have to go everywhere at a meandering toddler pace so you can actually get to places on time - or thereabouts.
The term buggy board officially refers to the Lascal Buggy Board, which was the very first board manufactured to be attached to a buggy. Most pushchair brands offer their own buggy board but you can also choose from a wide range of universal buggy boards designed to fit most types of pram.
Parents on our Mumsnet talk boards often discuss the merits of buggy boards and are always keen to report on the best performing products - and the ones that fall short of expectations too. We've collated a list of the best buggy boards that Mumsnetters have tried, tested and rave about to put together this handy guide.

What Mumsnet users say
The Lascal BuggyBoard Maxi ticks pretty much all the boxes you could imagine, making it our favourite overall buggy board. It’s a universal board, claiming to fit more than 99% of pushchairs, so whatever buggy you own, the Lascal Maxi is likely to work for you.
Lascal has produced a good quality, solid board, with a non-slip surface to help your child travel safely. It can be hooked out of the way when not in use for short periods or you can completely remove it with ease.
The Lascal Maxi is a standing board which doesn’t come with a seat. However, there’s an option to buy a compatible ‘saddle’, which can be bought separately if you decide your child would be happier sitting down. The saddle doesn’t come cheap, so you’d have to factor this into the overall price if you want a seated buggy board. When compared to the other seated buggy board on our list, the BumpRider Sit Stroller Board, the Lascal Maxi works out as being quite a bit more expensive.

What Mumsnet users say
It may cost the best part of £100 but the BumpRider Sit Stroller Board offers lots of impressive features. The definition of versatile, it can fit pretty much any pushchair on the market and can also be clipped out of the way when not needed, and it even has a suspension mechanism for a comfortable ride.
Best of all, the seat is incredibly comfy for little bottoms and there are also built-in handlebars that kids will find really fun (while also helping to keep them secure). The seat can be easily removed, if your child prefers to stand during their ride.
You may alternatively prefer to choose the Seat+ option - this removable seat doesn’t come with a built in handlebar but it can be fitted either front or backwards facing so if your older child fancies a cuddle with you during their journey, that’s totally doable. Whichever variation you choose, the BumpRider Sit Stroller Board accommodates children aged between two and five.

Price: RRP £105 | Maximum child’s weight: Up to 20kg as a stroller board, up to 50kg as a scooter | Suitable for: Most prams via universal connectors
Your child is bound to love this unique product. It's more than just a stroller-board - it’s a scooter! Produced by the makers of Mountain Buggy and Phil & Teds, the Mountain Buggy Freerider Stroller Board is a multipurpose ride-on platform and detachable scooter. Choose it in eye-catching orange or classic black.
For scooter mode, you turn the rear wheel into the fixed position. To allow for manoeuvrability when it’s attached to the buggy, you can turn it for a 360-degree swivel function. There are light up, colourful wheels and an adjustable handlebar that houses four height options, from 68cm (26 inches) to 90cm (35inches) so it will grow with your child. As a scooter, it can handle up to 50kg of weight or 20kg as a buggy board when attached to a pushchair.
The Mountain Buggy Freerider Stroller Board is made to fit the rear axle of all Mountain Buggy and Phil & Teds prams. But it can also fit the Baby Jogger City Mini, Britax Strider Plus, Bugaboo Cameleon and Bob Revolution with the use of an additional connector.

Price: RRP £62.99 | Maximum child’s weight: 20kg | Suitable for: Most prams via universal connectors
What Mumsnet users say
The Lascal BuggyBoard Mini is a more compact version of our top choice, the Lascal BuggyBoard Maxi. It lives up to its name - the Mini weighs only 1.8kg in comparison to the Maxi’s heftier 2.7kg.
However, just like the beefier version, it will fit any pushchair and has the same non-slip platform, with built-in suspension for a comfortable ride.
The Lascal Mini may be small and compact, but there’s still plenty of room for a toddler to stand, and the large wheels ensure you won’t kick the board as you push the buggy. The Mini can be fitted on uprights between 26-50 cm and the connectors are made to fit square, oval and round tubing.
This special edition version in snazzy leopard print adds a fashionable touch to proceedings too - great for standing out from the crowd at your local toddler group.

Best Oyster buggy board
BabyStyle Oyster Ride On BoardBabyStyle Oyster Ride On Board
Compatible with many Oyster buggies
Easy to attach and fold away
Non-slip safety board
Incompatible with non-Oyster buggies
Key specs
Price: RRP £59 | Maximum child’s weight: 20kg | Suitable for: Only compatible with (most) Oyster prams
What Mumsnet users say
One to consider if you have an Oyster buggy, this board is suitable for use with many Oyster pushchair chassis. Providing a lightweight but sturdy platform for your older child to use while your younger one is snuggled in their buggy, it's easy to secure to the rear axle of the pushchair frame. It can also be quickly folded away when not in use, without hindering the folding mechanism of the buggy.
The platform has non-slip grips on it to prevent your toddler taking a tumble and consumer reviews say that, as it doesn’t stick out too far, it won’t hinder your stride when pushing the buggy.
Pricewise, it’s very reasonable. However, it will obviously only suit your needs if you have a compatible Oyster pushchair. Be aware that it doesn’t fit all Oyster buggies so check before you buy to avoid inconvenience, but you may be able to buy adaptors if this is the case.

Fun steering wheel and car-style seat
Three-point harness
Only offers a seat rather than a standing board

Price: RRP £195 | Maximum child’s weight: 25 kg | Suitable for: Most prams via universal connectors
If you’re petite, you may find it tricky to reach the handle of your pushchair when your child is riding a standard buggy board. Thankfully, the Roma Uptown Rider provides a great workaround - quite literally.
This sidecar-style buggy board allows your older child to be positioned alongside you, allowing you to walk more easily and without worrying about stubbing your toes on the back of the buggy board. You may have trouble getting through narrow doors though.
We like that the Roma Uptown Rider also offers a steering wheel and car-style seat, which your child is bound to enjoy. There are four wheels for added stability, a three-point harness for extra safety and a removable and washable seat padding to ensure your toddler rides in comfort.
Most buggy boards are suitable from 2-years-old, but the Roma Uptown Rider can be used from 12 months - great if you have a small gap between your babes. However, it’s not as versatile as a dual-purpose ride-on like the BumpRider Sit Stroller Board, because this is only a seat and offers no function as a standing board.

Suitable from 24 months to six years
Some say it still gets in the way a little when folded
Key specs
Price: RRP £47 | Maximum child’s weight: 25 kg | Suitable for: Most prams via universal connectors
Compatible with nearly all pushchairs, the Vihir universal buggy board offers a smooth ride for older siblings thanks to the spring-loaded wheels and anti-slip diamond-pattern design on the board. As it can easily be altered to fit thanks to the adjustable length, width and angle, you can ensure that your child is snug and comfortable during their ride.
This board is recommended for children aged 24 months to six years. It offers ample space for older kids to stand or sit on the included seat. The seat can be easily removed by unscrewing it from the detachable support rod that connects it to the board.
We also appreciate its anti-slip diamond pattern design that increases friction to prevent slipping, ensuring safety. The soft Velcro features strong adhesion and a smooth, comfortable surface. The round adjustment knob, made from ABS material, is gentle on the hands too which is an added bonus.
Even though this buggy board is suitable for children up to the age of six, some say that the seat is a little small (and is too low down on the board) for older children.
At under £50, this buggy board is one of the less expensive options in comparison to others on our list and is good value for money overall.

Easy to attach
Decent suspension and ergonomic non-slip surface
Reasonably priced

Key specs
Price: RRP £70 | Maximum child’s weight: 20 kg | Suitable for: Most prams via universal connectors
If you hate faffing about with fiddly gadgets, you can breathe easy thanks to the Bumprider Stroller Board. The manufacturer of this buggy board claims that it’s almost totally universal and doesn’t require tools for attachment to your buggy. Music to the ears of those of us who are, ahem, less than adept at DIY.
The Bumprider Stroller Board offers impressive suspension for a comfortable ride along with an ergonomic non-slip surface to prevent your toddler from tumbling off in transit. This buggy board is also easy to fold away with a safety strap or disconnect when not in use.
Pricewise, this buggy board is one of the most affordable designs on our list. Compared to other stroller boards, it’s relatively purse-friendly; ideal if you’re not sure exactly how often you’ll use a buggy board but want to have one ready, just in case.

The board is compatible with Baby Joggers including Baby Jogger City Elite 2, City Mini 2, City Mini GT2, City Mini 2 Double, City Mini GT2 Double, City Tour Lux, City Select, City Select Lux and Summit x 3.
The non-slip surface will keep your child stable during your travels. Like most of the buggy boards on our list, can handle a maximum weight of 20kg.
When it comes to attaching it to your buggy, the Baby Jogger Glider Board is easy to fit. It can also be flipped and clipped away when not in use and it won’t stop you folding your buggy when attached either. Like the Oyster board though, this board designed to fit only one brand of pushchairs, which means that it won’t be of use if you don't have a Baby Jogger design.

Are buggy boards worth it?
If you have more than one small child, you may find a buggy board an ideal way to upgrade your buggy or stroller to carry your older child, rather than investing in a double buggy that may only be used for a few months. Reviewers say that buggy boards are handy for short trips out when you need to keep everyone moving at a faster pace than toddler speed.

Is it better to get a buggy board with a seat?
A buggy board with a seat may work well for you if your older child is still relatively young and is likely to get tired and cranky if they have to stand on a buggy board for any considerable time. A dual purpose buggy board such as the BumpRider Sit Stroller Board offers versatility because it can be used as a seat or as a stand-on buggy board, depending on your needs.
Are buggy boards easy to walk with?
Some people struggle to walk with buggy boards. Common complaints from users are that they're unable to take proper strides when pushing a buggy with a stroller platform attached as their feet catch on the board. Others say that it’s bad for posture or that they struggle to reach the pushchair handle over their child when they’re using the ride-on. However a side car buggy board such as the Roma Uptown Ride may solve this issue.

What age is a buggy board for?
Depending on which buggy board you choose to buy, you’ll probably be able to begin using a board when your child is around two years old. They need to be able to be trusted to sit or stand sensibly, otherwise a buggy board may not be safe to use.
However the Roma Uptown Ride. which offers a sidecar ride-on arrangement and safety harness is suitable from 12-months-old.

Buggy board or double buggy? How do I decide which is best for me?
If you have two small kids, you may think that investing in a double buggy is a no brainer. However, there are drawbacks to this decision; extra expense is one, with most double buggies being fairly pricey. Then there are the practicalities such as the storage space required and the fact that it can be a struggle fitting a hefty double buggy through shop doors and on public transport.
As most single buggies are compatible with a buggy board, this combination can make navigating two children on short journeys more straightforward. It’s a cheaper option too with buggy boards tending to be a fair bit cheaper than double buggies. Also, once you no longer need to use your buggy board, you can disconnect it and have your single pushchair back as it was.
