What is Black Friday?
If you're looking for a bargain in the run-up to the festive period then you'll want to take full advantage of the annual Black Friday sales. Every year brands and retailers offer big discounts on some of their most popular products, meaning shoppers can get some great savings - whether it's Christmas shopping, a big ticket item you've been after for a while, or an everyday essential you're wanting to save on.
When is Black Friday 2025?
Black Friday 2025 falls on Friday 28 November. However, some early deals are released by retailers throughout November, and we expect to see great savings throughout the month. So if you're starting your Christmas shopping, you don't have to wait until the day to bag a bargain. Amazon's Black Friday sale runs between Thursday 27 November and Monday 1 December.
Cyber Monday 2025 falls on Monday 1 December. Traditionally, Black Friday was centered around in-store sales whereas, as the name suggests, Cyber Monday delivered online discounts. As most people now do their shopping online, this distinction is less clear, and you can expect fantastic deals from online retailers across the whole weekend (and in the lead up to it).
When should you start shopping for Black Friday?
As Black Friday has snowballed in popularity, brands have started launching their deals earlier in November, rather than waiting until Black Friday itself (Friday 29 November).
Keep your eyes peeled throughout November, as we expect to see a range of retailers kick off their sales early in the month and add fresh deals closer to the time too.
The hotly anticipated Amazon Prime Big Deal Days event is also running on 8 and 9 October if you're wanting to snap up an early deal. This second instalment of the popular Prime Day sale promises to be another shopping extravaganza - just bear in mind you need to be a Prime member to reap the rewards. You can sign up and get more info here.
What are the most popular Black Friday deals?
You can expect big ticket items like appliances and tech that have huge discounts to fly off the (virtual) shelves, as many consumers will wait until the sales to grab a bargain on these expensive items. Amazon devices such as Echo Dots and Fire TV Sticks are usually popular products on Black Friday too.
We also expect everyday household cleaning items, such as bulk packs of dishwasher tablets, to be a go-to choice for shoppers too, particularly with the cost of living crisis and many people wanting to find a deal on essentials.
It's also a fantastic time of year for new parents or parents-to-be to shop for those expensive but essential baby items. Don't miss our guide to the best Black Friday pram deals and baby product discounts if you're expecting or have a newborn.
Why should I shop the Amazon Black Friday sale with Mumsnet?
It can be overwhelming, not to mention time-consuming, to search a retailer as extensive as Amazon to find the best deals and hidden gems. So our team of experts will be working hard, thoroughly researching the best Amazon Black Friday deals, and only showcasing the biggest savings here.
Using invaluable insights into what products real parents rate and recommend, we'll carefully curate a list of discounts you can trust.
We'll also be running our annual Black Friday thread, so if you want anything specific on the day, you can pop on there and ask, and one of our dedicated team of bargain hunters will be on the case to find you a great saving – check out last year's Black Friday deals thread for what you can expect on the day.
Tips for finding the best Amazon Black Friday deals
The beauty of Amazon is the huge range of products it stocks, meaning you can tick many things off of your list in one go. Searching out the best deals can be difficult though, even if you're only sticking to one site for it all, so we'll be on hand throughout November with all the top Amazon Black Friday deals, right on this page. Don't forget to bookmark it and keep checking back as we'll be updating it regularly with fresh discounts.
Mumsnet users usually recommend having a list before you go, particularly if you're planning on hitting Amazon on Black Friday for Christmas shopping, to keep you on task.
Think about who you need to buy for and what you want to get them. Are there any other things you'd be buying for the house anyway or any treats you've had your eye on? Writing a list will keep you focused and ensure you get the deals you really want before they're sold out. And then when you're done, if the odd impulse purchase catches your eye, you can buy safe in the knowledge that you're not missing out on what you've been needing or coveting for a while.
Do you need to be a Prime member to shop the Amazon Black Friday deals?
No, it's not essential, but to get the most out of the Amazon Black Friday sales it is recommended. You will still be able to shop the sales without an upgraded account, but a Prime subscription can give you early access to some lightning deals hosted by Amazon.
The best feature of Prime for frequent shoppers, however, has to be the free next day delivery offered on many products across Amazon (do double check though, as the delivery times may be slightly longer on some products and brands). Oh, and you'll also get access to the Prime Video and Prime Music streaming services. Now that's what we call a good deal.
It's £8.99 per month to subscribe and if you've not had Prime before you can get a free 30-day trial. Find out more here.
What's the history of Black Friday?
Originating in America, Black Friday is still relatively new in the UK but has fast become one of the biggest sales events of the year in the past decade. It started a lot sooner in the US though - it's estimated that 'Black Friday' as a term was first used in the 1960s, but this wasn't in relation to shopping and was instead connected to busy traffic.
The Black Friday sales always follow Thanksgiving (similar to how the Boxing Day sales are the day after Christmas Day), and it's thought that retailers have adopted the term to reflect their finances after a boost from the sales, and are 'in the black', meaning in debit, as opposed to owing or being down on money.
What is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday started much later as a concept in the US than Black Friday, and it wasn't until 2005 when it began. Originally Cyber Monday was the big day for online discounts, whereas Black Friday was for in store bargains. However, with the popularity of shopping on the Internet, you can also get great deals online on Black Friday too.
