This premium-priced LED face mask promises spa-level results thanks to its clever wire-free tech and lightweight comfort… But given it’s one of the most expensive masks out there, is it actually worth it?

My verdict
The FAQ 201 is undoubtedly a luxury beauty tool — and at £449, it really needs to deliver. Thankfully, it mostly does. The completely wire-free design is a game-changer, especially compared to masks like the SENSSE, where a remote is still physically tethered to the mask. With the controls built right into the forehead, it’s intuitive and seamless to use, even if that does mean there’s a noticeable square on your face during treatments.
What sets this mask apart is its transparent, ultra-light silicone design, which fits like a second skin and makes the even light distribution genuinely effective. The non-slip headband is another highlight as it means the mask stays put without snagging hair. The included cleaning spray is a nice touch, and it all feels very premium... though for the price, I wouldn’t expect any less.
I was skeptical at first about the controls on the forehead, but the light distributes evenly
But there are a few niggles: the app feels like a missed opportunity. It offers little beyond product registration and access to a digital manual, and you can't control or programme sessions from your phone. Also, switching between red, blue, and green light has to be done manually with no option to create a cycle or combo treatment.
Still, despite these drawbacks, I’ve seen genuine improvements in pigmentation, hormonal breakouts, and skin texture. It leaves my skin less red and more balanced—and I’ve had actual compliments on my skin recently when I’ve been make-up free on the school run, which almost never happens.
How I tested the Foreo FAQ 201 LED face mask
I used the mask between three to four times a week for a month, often during my nightly Yellowstone binge (the wide eye cut-outs mean I can still enjoy Rip in all his glory, IYKYK).
I targeted pigmentation from sun exposure, monthly hormonal breakouts, and overall skin redness. My routine included a gentle cleanse beforehand, and I used my usual serums and moisturisers afterward for my nighttime skin routine.
Wearing it is comfortable and its design means it feels like a second skin
How does the Foreo FAQ 201 face mask work and what skin concerns does it target?
The mask uses red, blue, and green LED light therapy to treat a range of skin concerns:
Red LED: Boosts collagen and elastin, improving firmness and reducing fine lines
Blue LED: Targets acne, scarring, and excess oil production
Green LED: Brightens the skin and evens tone
Foreo claims it can reduce acne by 48%, boost elasticity, and reduce sebum — with visible changes in just two weeks.
Now, I can’t say for sure about the acne. Thankfully (touch wood) I don’t suffer too bad with adult acne, and only have breakouts when I’m due on. But there has been a noticeable difference in my pre-menstrual skin and my redness and pigmentation appear to have reduced quite a lot.
Green light aims to brighten the skin and even your skin’s tone
Blue light targets acne and scarring (which I need), and red boosts collagen, firms skin and reduces fine lines
What's included and how comfortable is it to wear?
The box contains the mask, a USB-C charger, an instruction manual, FAQ cleaning spray (60ml), and a small pouch (though bafflingly, it only fits the spray, not the mask). The mask itself is flexible, feather-light, and see-through, which means your living room will glow ominously — but honestly, I find that part fun while I scare the neighbours.
The gold-accented eye area helps the mask retain its shape, so it doesn’t flop about or pick up dust from whatever surface you rest it on. Although one tiny bugbear for me is that the nose area pinches ever so slightly but that's most likely due to my very large nose as opposed to a fault of the mask, let's be honest.
With the mask you get the USB charging cable and some FAQ cleaning spray
Ease of use and time commitment
It couldn’t be simpler: hold the button to power on, then tap to cycle between red, blue, and green. There’s no need to stay still, and it automatically turns off after 15 minutes, so there’s no risk of overdoing it.
I only wish there were pre-set programmes or customisable cycles — having to remember which light you’ve used and when can be a bit clunky, especially for those wanting to combine treatments.
Safety concerns and potential side effects
With wide eye cut-outs and even light distribution, I’ve never experienced eye discomfort or irritation, even after long sessions.
The soft silicone is gentle on skin, and the design prevents overheating. I also didn’t notice any dryness or sensitivity, even using it alongside my usual active ingredients in my nighttime routine (applied after mask use, of course).
How does the Foreo FAQ 201 LED face mask compare to similar masks?
Compared to the SENSSE Professional LED Face Mask, the FAQ 201 feels much more premium and user-friendly, especially as the full wireless design and flexible fit are a clear step up.
Against the Shark CryoGlow, it lacks under-eye cooling features and pre-set treatment modes, but it's more portable and lighter to wear.
It’s most similar to the CurrentBody LED Mask, but offers better comfort and a fully wire-free experience — though CurrentBody’s anti-ageing credentials and CE certification may still appeal to those prioritising wrinkle reduction.
Its transparent design and gold embellishments make this mask rather luxurious
Is the Foreo FAQ 201 LED face mask worth the price?
If you’re looking for a premium LED mask that’s comfortable, cordless, and easy to integrate into your routine, the FAQ 201 is a strong contender.
The price is steep, I’ll admit, but the build quality, comfort, and visible results really do help to justify it, especially if you plan to use it long term as an alternative to salon facials.
Who would benefit most from the Foreo FAQ 201 face mask?
This mask is best for:
Those looking to invest in a high-end LED treatment for regular use
Anyone with acne, pigmentation, dullness, or early signs of ageing
Users who want wire-free convenience and a quick daily routine without being tethered to a remote
However, it’s less suitable for those who want full app functionality, more controls and customisation or more budget-friendly options.
Best for: Tech-savvy skincare lovers, beauty gadget fans, and anyone looking to supercharge their skin from the comfort of their sofa — Yellowstone optional.
The app has limited functionality and doesn’t help you to customise your mask or treatments
Durability and maintenance
The mask holds its shape thanks to its smart design, and cleans easily with the included spray. The silicone is non-porous and hygienic, and it doesn’t pick up dust or fluff when placed down. And finally, the battery life is excellent. In fact, I only needed to charge it once every couple of weeks.

Final verdict
The Foreo FAQ 201 is a brilliant option if you’re ready to invest in LED light therapy and want a mask that fits well, feels comfortable, and delivers real results.
While it’s let down slightly by a barebones app, the wire-free design, premium materials, and visible skin improvements make it one of the most luxe at-home LED masks available.
